I would add two things for every couple to do, daily hold hands to pray together and read the Bible together. apologize to each everyday and accept each other's apologies, NEVER go to sleep at night upset with each other. statically speaking this changes the rate of successful marriages from 50% to 97.5%.

The one thing that my wife and I always do is we will playfully pick on each other to keep the laughter in our marriage. We've been together for 30yrs, married for 21yrs. and we've just recently become 1st time grandparents. We love each other unconditionally. Has it been perfect? pbbbt, of course it hasn't. We've worked through those tough times and came out stronger after those times. She will be the only one for me as she's willing to put up with my arse, will always be there when I need her; she's my rock, and she's makes me want to be better. Yes, she's my pain in my arse, but I love her for it.

Your way works but our marriage is more like a team of equals. We both follow Jesus. We both have the final word with each other, period. Both worked, both raised the kids, both took care of the house, both had opposite sex friends. Married 44 years now.
