@khanjicyber: The FBI would like a word with anyone using a pirated cable box. Over 10 million cheap Android streaming boxes were sold with malware already inside them, installed at the factory in China. The moment they were plugged in, they joined a criminal network that rents out your home internet connection for as little as 20 cents. Attacks on banks, account takeovers, and some of the biggest DDoS attacks ever recorded were routed through people’s living rooms. In November one of these networks fired off 1.7 billion attack commands in three days and briefly out-ranked Google in global traffic. I don’t know how useful a full list of affected models would be, but at a high level please check if you’re running a (X96, T95, TV98, MXQ, SuperBox as they’re the main ones. Want the full story? Darknet Diaries Ep 172 “SuperBox” is a brilliant deep dive on the researcher who helped uncover it. Link in bio. Sources: FBI Public Service Announcement I-060525-PSA (June 2025), Google v Does lawsuit (July 2025), HUMAN Security Satori BadBox 2.0 report, Krebs on Security, The Hacker News, Rescana, EFF. Note: not every unit of a listed model is infected, but infections are confirmed within these model lines. If you own one, treat it as compromised.

Google is already doing this with chrome, they are silently downloading a massive 4GB AI model file (Gemini Nano) directly onto users' computer hard drives to use for A.I and creating a network for them but you can't opt out

All smart TVs take screenshots of your TV dozens of times a minute and sell that to the highest bidder. I don't see a difference between the two. Both are engaging in criminal activity.

So if these boxes are easily accessible on Amazon then why haven't the FBI stepped in to prevent the sales?

if your not the customer argument breaks down when you ARE the customer and they still scrape and sell all your data.
