@leongkumfoo1982: Key Historical Elements of the Quote The Timing: Lee Kuan Yew stepped down in November 1990, passing the prime ministership to Goh Chok Tong. The 1991 exercise occurred during Goh's first National Day Parade as Prime Minister, leading Singaporean leadership to view the timing as a deliberate test of the new administration's resolve. Intimidation over Actual Invasion: As Lee Kuan Yew noted, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) leadership did not expect an all-out military invasion that day. Rather, they recognized it as psychological posturing and geopolitical maneuvering designed to assert regional dominance. The SAF Deterrence: Even though an invasion was deemed unlikely, Singapore ordered a massive open mobilization on National Day Eve (issuing live ammunition and deploying armored assets to staging zones) precisely to signal that intimidation would not work and that any breach of sovereignty would carry immediate consequences. #MilitaryFacts #Defense #Geopolitics #1991 #NationalDay
My OCS company just concluded a training in Pulau Tekong in the evening. While waiting at the jetty to return to the mainland, we saw waves of reservists coming. We’ve never seen reservists come to Tekong and in such numbers and heavily geared up and never that silent for a typically rowdy bunch. They’re not carrying blanks either, whispered our officers. Our boat to book out never came that night. We had to march back to camp and collect live ammo ourselves, including hand grenades and M203 canisters. And we were just cadets, not even operational. Those were scary times.

Good man :
This may be your side of the story. But the reality is, almost every country flexes its muscles and tests the waters with its neighbours from time to time. No country should be surprised by military exercises or displays of military capability,it is part of studying each other’s strength, strategy and even psychology.
Every nation has the right to conduct military exercises, so there’s really no need to be boastful or overly dramatic about it. At the end of the day, war is painful, costly and, more often than not, unnecessary.
So perhaps there’s no need to brood over a video like this. Military muscles may be flexed, but peace-loving neighbours don’t have to flex their egos along with them.
Peace to All!!!

As a person who went through that I feel that if we were not ready, the invasion may have happened. Most if not all leaderships in Singapore were there. They are able to wipe out most of our leadership in the blink of an eye. The paratrooper can than land in the stadium and other key facilities with the follow up of the armored columns and support by the infantry. Both Indonesia and Malaysia have not been great friends of Singapore. We are the cat that can be skinned and just a little red dot that can be trampled over.
