FubarJoe :
By late 1960, fundraising efforts to build the permanent memorial over the sunken battleship were stalling and fell significantly short of their financial goal.On March 25, 1961, Elvis Presley performed a legendary live benefit concert at Bloch Arena in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The concert raised over $54,000 (equivalent to over half a million dollars today) Beyond the direct ticket sales and Elvis's personal $5,000 donation, the concert thrust the project back into the national spotlight, inspiring a wave of public contributions. With the final funds secured—assisted by federal allocations and public donations—the USS Arizona Memorial was completed and officially dedicated in 1962

I rode a ferry type boat to the memorial. The ship has a drop of oil surfacing every few seconds. Sobering. People should visit it in person.

My great grandfather was supposed to be on that boat however he had gotten shot beforehand and was with the medic somewhere. It’s crazy to think the only reason I’m here is because he had gotten shot
