@gracetruthdaily: Is getting a tattoo a sin? Can Christians get tattoos? You may have asked yourself: Is getting a tattoo sinful? Does the Bible really forbid tattoos? The answer is not simply “yes” or “no”. Let us look at what the Bible actually says. The real issue is not only the tattoo itself, but the motive behind it. The Bible says: “Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 So you need to ask yourself: Why do I want a tattoo? Is it to glorify God, or simply to follow a trend? Is it to express my faith, or to follow the world? The Bible also reminds us: “Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you.” 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 Your body does not belong only to you. You were bought with a price. So any decision about your body is worth bringing before God. Do not let impulse, trends or other people make the decision for you. Some people say: “I want to put Jesus on my body to prove that I belong to Him.” But that is not the sign Jesus gave His disciples. “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:35 A true Christian does not prove their faith through a mark on their skin, but reveals Christ through love, words and the way they live. So what if you already have tattoos? Do not think that this means you cannot come before God. The Bible says: “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 God does not only look at your past. He also looks at your heart today and at the direction your life is now taking. So instead of asking: “Do I have the right to get a tattoo?” ask: “Will this decision bring me closer to God?” “Does it glorify Christ?” “Will it help me live a holy life?” Because God is not looking for someone who appears perfect on the outside, but for a heart that is willing to be fully given to Him.
