Great tip! Very useful for all visitors. Sometimes - even after years and 30+ visits to japan, I sometimes struggle understanding all-japanese menus. Sometimes I just order like "Oden wo mitsu, o susume no onegaishimasu". How would you ask the staff to just select a meal they recommend?

who do i say gouchi sou sama deshita to? the cashier? cook? waiter? 😳 everyone's busy all the time. do i time my leaving when someone is not busy? do i say it loudly or quietly? ahhhh it always feels like im doing it incorrectly. ramen shops seem to appreciate it though. but not all Japanese say it. so idk.
