I started crocheting recently for a hobby and everyone tells me to start selling my creations. I don’t want to. Turning my new hobby into a job/for profit will make it not fun for me anymore. 🤷🏻♀️

Profit isn't just someone making money on something. It's a signal. Profit tells companies to make more of what people actually need, and loss tells them to stop wasting resources on what people don't. Without that signal, you get shortages and inefficiency. Plus, R&D for new medical treatments, software, technology costs millions and carries massive risk. People don't risk their life savings or capital out of goodwill alone. The profit incentive is what turns ideas into actual, available solutions at scale. And look at global poverty rates over the last 50 years. Market integration and trade have lifted more people out of extreme poverty than any state-run economic model in history. Profit incentive fuels the productivity that makes high standards of living possible.

Actually, there isn't really anything that has to be made/done for profit. Get rid of the owner class, invest in the workers, and find a new way to distribute the resources. Innovation will still come because people want things easier and like cool things.
