Correction, the maximum rated length of traditional copper HDMI is up to 25’ and usually that’s at 1080. If pushing 4K or higher, it begins to drop. Now active cables can go up to 50’. I would agree with you though, I would rather have SDI over HDMI any day. Things that people don’t think about when it comes to HDMI (HDCP, EDID, No locking connectors, and not as easily serviceable in the field at long lengths).

You can also get an HDMI to ethernet adapter that All plug into an HDMI. There’s a transmitter side and a receiver side and you run ethernet in between that can go like 300 feet. That would be something cheaper and something worth looking into.
