@doctormitnaul: Been thinking about the story in Matthew where Peter steps out of the boat to walk toward Jesus. He's fine as long as he keeps his eyes forward. The moment he looks at the storm, he starts to sink. It's a strange thing to connect to parenting, but I keep coming back to it. So many of us hold back on setting boundaries with our kids because we're scared of the storm it might stir up. We're scared it'll strain the relationship. So we look at the waves instead of staying the course. Boundaries aren't the thing that sinks the relationship. Fear is. You don't need to have it figured out.
