Something about the incorporation of other colors like greens, browns and later yellows and silvers contrasted well with the red can. That and adding detail to the lettering. that was a lost period for coke and Pepsi. after what happened with Michael Jackson, the new coke debacle and the fact there was an explosion of alternate drinks everyone thought traditional colas were on the way out. then for some reason around 2011 it became popular with millenials and a year later they signed Taylor Swift and the rest is history
