During a July 31 deposition, Sinema testified that the relationship became physical around Memorial Day 2024 while the two were staying at an Airbnb in Napa, California. According to federal court filings obtained by PEOPLE, Sinema said Ammel kissed her outside the rental before they went inside and had sex. The relationship allegedly continued the following month during a trip to New York City, where Sinema was attending CNN anchor Jessica Dean’s wedding. Although Sinema and Ammel reportedly had separate hotel rooms, she testified that they were intimate during the trip. Ammel’s ex-wife, Heather Ammel, filed suit against Sinema in January under North Carolina’s alienation of affection law, sometimes referred to as a “homewrecker” law. Heather alleges that Sinema intentionally interfered with her 14-year marriage and is seeking more than $75,000 in damages. Sinema has acknowledged the affair but is seeking to have the lawsuit dismissed.
