Fun fact when you're not on your phone at a time you normally are, apps like Facebook will send you a random notification like those "your friend was mentioned in a post" to try and get you to pick up your phone and look so you'll start scrolling again

Sure, for most, they aren't doing it consciously for harm or malice, but neither are the cells in a cancer. At some point the expectation for them to look up and own their effects is more than past due. the larger they are the more of a responsibility they have to keep the system healthy or GTFO.
