For any young one aspiring to work in the banking industry please do not be in a hurry to accept a contract staff position just because you want to get your foot in the door. If you have the opportunity to enter as a Graduate Trainee, please consider it seriously. Contract roles can sometimes become difficult to transition out of, especially when you remain in that position for too long. It can limit your growth, opportunities and progression within the organization. Try as much as possible to come in as a Graduate Trainee, at the very least. Start from a position where there is a clear path for development, training, confirmation and career progression. Don’t just think about getting a job; think about where that job can take you in the next 3 to 5 years. Sometimes, the position you accept today can determine how easily you can grow tomorrow. Please think about it carefully.
