His enthronement made him internationally famous as the world's youngest reigning monarch at the time. He grew up under the guidance of regents and the royal family while continuing his education. He attended schools including Aga Khan Primary School and Kampala International School Uganda, and later studied Business Management at the University of Winchester in the UK, graduating in 2013.
