It was 05 June 1988. Two NSS personnel, Pvt. Abdul Kareem and Pvt. Mohamed Shareef (Sakkeyoge), boarded Coastguard Vessel
It was 05 June 1988. Two NSS personnel, Pvt. Abdul Kareem and Pvt. Mohamed Shareef (Sakkeyoge), boarded Coastguard Vessel "115 Brevi" to carry out maintenance work. On 06 June 1988, the NSS headquarters noticed that the two personnel had not returned to their duty. During those days, it was a serious offence to skip assigned duties in the army. The headquarters called the officers' houses, only to receive the news that they had never returned home. An NSS vessel named "CG 7" was docking near the 115 Brevi vessel and found footwear present on the 115 Brevi vessel. They boarded the vessel to inspect it, only to find Pvt. Abdul Kareem and Pvt. Mohamed Shareef deceased on the sofa inside the vessel. The two bodies were quickly transported to the hospital, and a swift investigation was carried out under Lieutenant Adam Ibrahim Manik's supervision. The investigation allegedly stated that the two personnel were watching a movie on television after powering it with a portable petrol generator. The scene also indicated that the personnel had closed all the windows and doors before watching the movie, which led to carbon monoxide poisoning. The two officers were buried during the evening hours of 06 June 1988. They were buried with great honour, surrounded by army seniors.
