@chrisdavidyork: Russian economy warning panics Kremlin. Russia's economy is increasingly screwed and people are losing their jobs for saying it out loud. This chap is Andrei Klepach and he's just been fired for doing what authoritarians like Putin hate the most — telling the truth. Until very recently, Klepach was the chief economist at Russian bank, VEB. He's an economics veteran, and more importantly, a Kremlin insider. And he has said something big — that Russia is not only losing the technological and economic battle with China and the US, but also "in some respects" with Ukraine. He said: "We will not win this competition in a war of attrition. We have this illusion that everything there will collapse. It has not collapsed, and it will not. Our costs are growing." Now given the dire state of Ukraine's economy, one of Russia's most prominent economists saying that a country that likes to think of itself as one of the most powerful in the world will struggle to compete with the tiny neighbour they thought they could conquer in three days is a big deal. But what's really interesting is he said this back in May, but has only been fired now. Why? Because his comments only just became public. #ukrainewar #russia #putin #economics #kyiv

Russia is in a doom spiral. Once they lose the war and Putin accidentally falls from a tall building, they'll need to give land to China to repay their war debt.

The question now is, will this break Russia like it broke the Soviet Union? Into multiple smaller nations?

The Ukrainian 🇺🇦 economy would have collapsed after a month into the war. The entire country’s civil service and military is being financed by the EU 🇪🇺.

The situation will get worse for Russia. Energies will be maintained on the front line so not to lose face but behind that, defences will crumble. Many more infrastructure targets will be hit by Ukraine and the Russian economy will increasingly slow down.

Stealing everything not nailed down. “Fired for saying everyone is stealing everything!”😳😳😳 If he had said “where’s my cut?” probably would have been fine hard to tell. Nothing left to steal crisis 😅😅😅

Isn't Ukraine a "client state", wholly dependent on the EU and others to fund government salaries and pensions? Seems they are the ones who are f'ed.

I realize that you’re doing your best to paint an optimistic picture but the velocity that Russia is degrading seems glacial compared to the velocity that Ukraine is losing the war 💔. So while all the predictions of Russian doom are nice to hear, it also seems unlikely that they’ll change course anytime in the near, middle, or distant future.
