@floodnerd: Clean your washer filter every month. Most homeowners do not realize their washing machine has a filter hiding behind that little panel near the bottom. Pop the panel open, and you will usually find the filter and a small drain line. Before you unscrew anything, grab a container and drain the water first. Unhook the drain line, pull the plug, and let the water empty into the container. Skip that step and you are about to make a laundry room puddle. Then unscrew the filter, pull it out, and brace yourself. It is probably going to be gross. Rinse off the buildup, slide it back in, tighten it, plug the drain line back in, and close the panel.
