The next morning, Jennie arrived at the office earlier than usual. She walked through the lobby with the same expression she always wore. Cold. Serious. Untouchable. "Good morning, Miss Kim." Jennie didn't stop or even greet them. Her employees immediately lowered their voices once she passed. "She's in a bad mood." "She always looks like that." "Don't let her hear you." Jennie heard them. She simply ignored them. By the time she reached her office, her secretary was already waiting with a stack of documents. "Good morning, Miss Kim." "Morning." "These need your signature." "Leave them there." "And the board meeting—" "Move it to three." Her secretary nodded. "Also, the construction site called." Jennie stopped writing. "What about it?" "They said the worker who was injured yesterday won't be able to report for several days." Jennie's expression remained unchanged. "Good." Her secretary blinked. "Good?" "She needs to rest." There was a short silence. Her secretary carefully chose her next words. "Are you concerned about her?" Jennie looked up. "She's an employee." "Of course." "She was injured because she saved me. Making sure she recovers is my responsibility." "Understood." Jennie returned to her paperwork. But after a few seconds, she asked, "Did you find out if she has someone taking care of her?" Her secretary looked surprised. "Her family?" "Yes." "Her mother and daughter." Jennie's pen stopped. "Daughter?" "Yes. Three years old." Jennie remembered the little girl from yesterday. The tiny voice. The shy expression. The way she had called her pretty. Jennie's lips almost curved. Almost. She quickly returned her attention to the documents. "That's all." Her secretary nodded. But before she left, Jennie added. "Send groceries to the house." Her secretary froze. "Groceries?" "Yes." "How much?" "Enough for a family." Her secretary smiled slightly. "I'll arrange it." Jennie looked at her coldly. "And don't tell them it came from me." "Of course." Once the secretary left, Jennie leaned back in her chair. She didn't understand herself. She had never cared about the personal lives of her employees. Yet Lisa was different. Not because she saved her. But because she had refused the money. That was something Jennie couldn't understand. ——— Meanwhile, Lisa woke up to the sound of a tiny voice. "Dada." She opened her eyes. Lia was standing beside the bed. "What is it, baby?" "Breakfast." Lisa smiled. "You're hungry?" Lia nodded. "Very hungry." Lisa slowly sat up. Her body still hurt. She looked toward the clock. She had slept longer than usual. She immediately remembered the doctor's instructions. Rest. No heavy work. She sighed. "I need to make breakfast." "No." Lia shook her head seriously. "Grandma said Dada needs rest." Lisa stared at her daughter. "Did Grandma tell you that?" "Yes." "And what else did Grandma tell you?" Lia thought for a moment. "Dada is stubborn." Lisa laughed. "Your grandmother said that?" Lia nodded. Lisa pulled her daughter into her arms. "Your grandmother talks too much." From the kitchen, her mother shouted, "I heard that!" Lisa laughed. For a moment, everything felt peaceful. Later that morning, someone knocked on their door. Lisa's mother opened it. Several boxes of groceries were waiting outside. "What's this?" The delivery worker handed her a receipt. "Someone sent these." "Who?" The worker shook his head. "We weren't told." Lisa came over. She looked at the boxes. There was enough food to last them for quite some time. "Maybe it's from the company." Her mother looked at her. "Your boss?" Lisa immediately thought of Jennie. "No." She shook her head. "She wouldn't." ——— But somewhere across the city, Jennie was sitting in her office, pretending she hadn't just spent the morning making sure a certain family had enough food. That afternoon, Jennie returned to the construction site. The workers immediately became nervous. "Miss Kim is here." Jennie walked through the site. "Why isn't this section secured properly?" The project manager immediately approached. "We're fixing it now." "Now isn't good enough." ⬇️⬇️ #jenlisa #au #fyp #jenlisa_story
