i got my new leg a few weeks ago, after having a lot of socket issues which resulted in me not having a wearable prosthetic since July of 2024. I am not gonna lie, it’s being pretty rough coming to terms with the fact i have been set back quite a lot in terms of my mobility. it is exhausting wearing my leg for short periods and the fatigue from it is honestly making life feel pretty overwhelming at the moment. i had physio on thursday, for the first time where i had someone to come and support me since having my leg amputated in 2022. which wasn’t something i really thought much about, but i was able to do things - like walk back to my car and not worry about pushing my wheelchair - that i wouldn’t have been able to do alone. yeah i could have asked a member of staff but it was something that never crossed my mind. i walked 2km over an hour and a half which was massive for me to see (thanks strava) and realised maybe i’m not as far back as i thought i was. it’s just different. yesterday i had a rest day as my pain was quite high from all the walking. yet today, i still feel aches but im not going to progress unless i put my leg on and work away at it. i had an overwhelming feeling of dread this morning, but also some excitement. that excitement was the thing for me that stopped the dread leaking in to avoidance. because avoidance was where i had sat for the week before physio with my prosthetic untouched. being an amputee can be bloody hard, and there can be setbacks like this all the time. which is really difficult to accept. i’m working on it, i can only do my best and that varies each day 🫶🏻 if you have read all of this, you might want to tune in to Mondays episode of the podcast as it is all about that feeling! #disability #amputee #prosthetic #abovekneeamputee #aka #disabled #wheelchair #physio #recovery #podcast #scottish
