Dairy cows drink more and when they all go to the field at the same time, begin grazing at the same time, large numbers of cows go to drink at the same time. Several cows wont move concrete troughs and they have the capacity to satisfy several cows need for water with out the trough becoming empty... After several years of cows reaching to the bottom of plastic troughs... They eventually bend them out of shape and they leak. Hence dairy farmers concrete, everybody else plastic. Just make sure to drain them at the end of grazing so they dont crack because it does happen.

Dairy cows need the capacity as beef cattle don’t drink as much so the probably thaught you wer gone crazy and had the pit dug out!!!
