Former Toyota MDT here. they are super easy to access on most hybrids made in the last 10 years. they are usually behind a panel on the side of the rear seat with a couple pop clips. they are cleanable elements, just blow them out or vacuum them. some vehicles have one on both sides. check your owners manual or just Google search a picture of the location.

I changed the filter on my parents' 2015 Prius. It was extremely easy. Theirs was at the rear passenger seat down by leg near the door jamb. Just lift up the panel and pull out. I scrapped the OEM filter and got one on Amazon which clips directly on top of the vent by the passenger's leg. That way it is significantly easier to remove and clean when needed. A Toyota tech told me about this. In all, it took two minutes and no tools except for my hands. And yikes was the filter dirty, it was starving the battery of air before.

My 2016 RAV4 hybrid brought up the sign on the screen about this and I didn’t know what it was talking about. I brought it to Toyota and they quoted me $429 just to clean then but because I thought that was a crazy amount I asked ChatGPT and ChatGPT provided a video of how I can clean it. So I went home and asked my dad to help. We ended up cleaning it ourselves and saved all that money. Please check to see if it’s something you can do yourself cause these dealers are expensive

I went to a Lexus dealership asking for them to look at the filter for my hybrid battery and they changed my engine air filter and wanted to charge me $130 for it. I was livid! On top of the fact that it takes all of 12 seconds to change the engine air filter, that wasn’t the filter I was even talking about. Absolutely ridiculous.
