Lingling looked toward the door. Orm peeked inside. “Lingling?” “Yes, Darling?” “Are you busy?” “A little.” Orm nodded. “Okay.” She disappeared. Lingling smiled and returned to work. Thirty seconds later— Orm appeared again. “Lingling?” Lingling looked up. “Yes?” “Nothing.” She disappeared again. Lingling sighed. Five minutes later— Orm entered carrying a pillow. Lingling stared. “What are you doing?” “Nothing.” “You brought a pillow.” “Yes.” “Why?” Orm placed it on the sofa in the corner. “I'm going to sit here.” “Why?” “Because I want to be near you.” Lingling smiled. “Okay.” Orm sat down. Silence. Lingling continued working. Orm watched her. One minute. Two. Three. Then— “Lingling.” “Yes?” “Look at me.” Lingling looked up. Orm smiled. “Okay.” Lingling returned to her laptop. Two minutes later— “Lingling.” “Yes?” “Look at me again.” Lingling laughed. “Why?” “Because I like it when you look at me.” Lingling closed her laptop. “Come here.” Orm's face immediately brightened. She practically flew across the room. Lingling patted the chair beside her. Orm sat down. “You've been unusually clingy today.” Orm looked innocent. “Me?” “Yes.” “Impossible.” Lingling raised an eyebrow. “You followed me from the kitchen to the office.” “I was walking.” “You waited outside the bathroom.” “I was waiting.” “You followed me upstairs.” “I like stairs.” Lingling laughed. “You're terrible at excuses.” Orm smiled. Then she quietly rested her head on Lingling's shoulder. “I just don't want to be far away from you.” Lingling's expression softened. “Because of yesterday?” Orm nodded. “A little.” Lingling gently squeezed her hand. “You don't have to worry.” Orm looked up. “Really?” “Really.” Orm smiled. “Then can I stay?” “Of course.” “Can I hold your hand?” “Yes.” “Can I sit here?” “Yes.” “Can I have your attention?” Lingling smiled. “You already have it.” Orm looked delighted. “Can I have your coffee?” Lingling immediately pulled the cup away. “No.” Orm gasped. “That's where you draw the line?” “Absolutely.” Orm crossed her arms. “Fine.” She leaned against Lingling again. “Your coffee can stay.” Lingling laughed. A few minutes later, Lingling tried opening her laptop again. Orm gently pushed it closed. Lingling stared at her. “Darling.” “Hmm?” “I need to work.” “I know.” “Then why did you close it?” Orm smiled sweetly. “Because I wanted one more minute.” Lingling looked at her. Then smiled. “One minute.” Orm hugged her. “Deal.” One minute passed. Lingling reached for the laptop. Orm tightened her hug. “…Two minutes.” Lingling laughed. “Orm.” “Please?” Lingling sighed dramatically. “Two minutes.” Orm smiled triumphantly. “Best wife ever.” Lingling shook her head. “And you're the clingiest wife ever.” Orm happily rested against her. “I'll accept that title.” “Of course you will.” And somehow, Lingling's work ended up taking much longer than expected. Not because the work was difficult. But because Orm kept requesting— “One more minute.” Again. And again. And again. By evening, Lingling had accomplished almost nothing. Orm, however?
