If you don't have the drill, use a knife and baton to split the log into 4 pieces, chisel out the center bits, put notches in the side of 2 adjoining pieces and use a piece of wire to bind them all together.

It also works with a regular drill as well. You just gotta get a big enough bit. You don’t need to muscle through the hand auger bullshit.
