omg yes😭, i remember the first time i seen a french black diaspora war. a french african was reducing [french] caribbean lineage to just africa. sounds super familiar, right? 🫪 it made me let go of my “woe is me” and made me realize no experience is truly my own😭 even made me discard the pan-africanist inside of me.

Diaspora wars are more common in french bc they colonized both the caribbean and africa. In spanish not so much. France also has alot of the 50/50 conversations and gender wars. Theres also alot of diaspora wars in england lol. Ppl used to hate caribbeans and think they were ghetto, similar to african americans

Yes, we have these kinds of conversations as the diaspora all across Europe. In the Netherlands, we discuss almost the same topics that Black Americans discuss as well: colorism, texturism, diaspora wars, gentrification. It all comes up. I think the biggest difference is that the Dutch Caribbean community and the African community are growing much closer together and are increasingly seeing the similarities rather than focusing on what we don’t have in common. But that definitely didn’t happen without its struggles.

Black American that speaks: Louisiana Creole, can functionally understand/navigate French, (because of my Creole), and Brazilian Portuguese…yes. That’s why I hate when monolingual people in general say “only xyz has these discussions” because how would you know when 1. You’re monolingual and 2. You’re not in those discussions, aware of their media, etc to know.
