@melissadorman: Most homeowners pay for their house twice: 🏠 once for the house 🏦 once for the interest And a 30-year mortgage? It’s not a “loan.” It’s a profit machine. 😮‍💨 Borrow $500k and you can pay back $1M+ over time. Here’s a simple way to break the cycle (without refinancing): 👇 Take your principal + interest payment only (not taxes/insurance) Divide by 6 Make that amount as a mid-month principal-only payment ✅ Why it works: interest compounds on the remaining balance. So hitting principal more often shrinks the balance faster, which shrinks the interest faster. That’s how people shave years, sometimes decades, off the loan. Banks don’t love this because they profit off your patience, not your payments. 🙃 If you want more conscious wealth tips like this, hit follow. Why is the $3600 divided by 6 if there are 4 weeks in a month?

My mortgage company (Penny Mac) won’t let you do that. If you pay an amount under your payment amount they put it in a suspend account until you have enough for a whole payment. They even do this when I say principal only.

But you do need the bank’s permission. They started making us ask to do this or they don’t put it towards the principal they put it towards next months bill. And then you aren’t saving a dime

I already shortened my 30 years mortgage by 41 months. Pay extra principal every month is the key.
