You’re right about Royal Navy guys manning them. My grandad (RN Combined Op’s) drove an LCA on Juno beach on D-Day to land the Canadians at Mike Red sector. My friends father landed the Americans at Point de Hoc 🇨🇦🇺🇸🇬🇧.

I love your videos because I always learn new things about topics I was always interested in. I never knew those boats were made out of wood, that's insane and a death trap. I always thought they were made out of metal and that you were kind of safe as long as you stayed down and behind the closed ramp xD

My Grandad drove a landing craft (LCA) on that fateful day 🫡 He then transported more troops over the following days. He served in the Royal Navy from 1941-1946 (he was 17 in 1941 when he signed up) He died in 2007 and I am lucky enough to have one of his War Medals ✊🏽

If I remember right one still exists at the ww2 museum in New Orleans. Been a few years since I was there, maybe was a replica but hope to get back to that museum some day. Lots of cool history at that place.

in the film Higgins boats were used,it should have been British LCA'S, but as there is only one surviving LCA Spielberg had to use Higgins boats.

There a landing craft with 2 tanks on it down in Portsmouth at the d day museum that’s worth a visit along with fort Nelson on top of portsdown hill
