I’ve been here for nearly 30 years, and I’ve also lived in different parts of Europe and the Gulf. From my experience, the UK is one of the best countries to live in, and I believe London offers a lot of opportunities. London is generally a safe place, and you have access to many services and forms of support. You can access the NHS for healthcare, and there is also support available from the government depending on your circumstances. If you have a business, the tax system can also be attractive, with corporation tax for qualifying small companies starting at 19%. Of course, you cannot compare countries based on one thing alone. The cost of living and salaries are different everywhere. The UK has relatively high wages compared with many countries, and the National Living Wage is around £15 per hour for eligible workers aged 21 and over from April 2026. So, for me, after living in different parts of Europe and the Gulf, the UK remains one of the best places to build a life, work, study and create opportunities.
