I'm teaching my kids before we pull out we "police" the camp site and pick up anything that is not natural to the area and leave no trace

Absolutely correct. Fire pit is for fires not trash. We have found so many disgusting things left in the pits. Someone left a package of shrink wrapped salmon baking in 90 degrees. Cigarette butts need to go in the trash because they can be deadly to wildlife. Leave a campsite cleaner than you found it.

Fire pits, fire rings are truly meant for firewood. They are not meant for any trash at all. That’s what the dumpsters are on site. Great video Paul Bunyan Campground Rocks….

When we camp and I cook on the BlackStone. I will throw paper towels that I wiped with oil in the fire pit to HELP US with a fire. However I feel that when people throw garbage in a fire pit and leave. You’re just making extra work for the staff. We just left a campground and my group was throwing trash in the pit. I cleaned it out! Always leave a site in better shape then you found it!

We do not burn anything but firewood in our pits while camping. We cook over our fire and do not want anything that may have chemicals in our fire going on our food.

I wonder if there's a correlation between the people that leave trash in their fire pits and the people that complain about trash in their fire pits

I used to take a friends kids camping and the fire ring would often be full of the previous campers trash. we always bagged our trash and dropped it off in the dumpster on the way to the beach

unfortunately that seems to be the trend these days. Been to several state park sites that this is common. Keep up with these common sense camping etiquette videos. maybe the word will get around. Maybe you could do a whole series on campground etiquette tik toks 😊

Also depending on how much paper and trash is left it sends up ash to land on tents and campers. Good message to educate campers
