We use percentages- at my wife’s insistence. I earn twice as much. So she pays about 50% of the mortgage, (it’s a small mortgage and she’s adamant that we are equal on that) but she pays 25% of everything else into our joint account. And often I just pay for holidays etc out of my own money. Works for us - nil arguments 🤷♀️

Don’t do a 50 / 50 split. do a proportionnal split aka you make 200k, she makes 20k so you split all the bills 90% you, 10% her. it’s still fair ...

matching 100% is excessive. if it was 25-50% it wouldn't be so bad of a shock. because you're paying back dollar for dollar. if you put some of it into a retirement account and some of it in a saving/investment account. so she knows one she can't touch and one she can use as a rainy day account.

Most couples do a percentage of their income so it’s equitable. My partner makes way more then I do but I can’t afford to pay half if we wanted to do 50/50
