my 93 year old dad passed 8/01. did not know he had dementia till the last week of his life. i just thought he was getting old. he didnt remember my name but would smile when I said my name. I would tell him I am your daughter and he would cry and say I have a daughter. he passed away sleeping in a bed in hospice and I was in a recliner beside him. I have taken care of him the last 2 years. I sure do miss him. I lost my mom in 21, my brother in 23, my husband in 24 now my dad.

My grandfather had dementia and my grandmother had Alzheimer’s. My grandfather was so mean and my grandmother was so sweet. My mom now has vascular dementia. She is 72. We have good and bad days. Our biggest battle is not letting her drive. She lives 5 hours away. My stepdad takes her out everyday to the local bars and lets her drink. I think he uses the bars as a babysitter.

Such a sad and heartbreaking disease 😢 my grandfather struggled with it for years! And he did not have a poly-pharmacy. He was extremely active and independent… until he wasn’t. The worst was when he started getting “mean and defensive” it was so out of character 😢 It was so sad to see the strongest man in my life go down so quick.
