@dustythunder_: "AITA for not warning my colleague that our boss was looking for her while she was taking an extra long lunch?" #redditstory #storytime #aitareddit #redditreadings #redditstorytime #part1 #story
If my Co worker was late getting back to lunch every day, I definitely would not cover for her

I think if it was the first or even the second time she might have covered for her, but since it was a habit she didn't care to!

I guarantee the boss already knew and ‘popped by’ to check in person for himself

you covered for her when you said "at lunch, not sure when she will be back"......you didnt say that she was overdue/late back...you didnt say when she left. She cant expect for yiu to create a story for her, and warner her wouldnt get her back sooner...

If she did it once or twice that would be fine then I would cover but if she did it all the time at some point she’ll get in trouble and then she’ll say so and so covered for me and then I would get fired too.

Mrs. Scumbag 🆘🇺🇸 :
My old boss used to take a two hour lunch every day then she’d complain that she was always so behind on her work and had to “stay late”. I finally lost it one day because I always ate at my desk, arrived 2-3 hours before her, so I would leave before her and she had the audacity to try and get me in trouble for my schedule. I told HER boss that it’s not on me that she takes a two hour lunch every day and I have better time management. Yea….it never got mentioned again.

Rebecca's request itself is an admission she knows what she's doing is wrong. NTA

The girl I work with takes a nap often on her lunch break because she lives close by....she still makes it back on time 🤷🏼♀️

Even if she had warned her, would she have been able to actually get there faster? She said she was “running late getting back” so 🤷♀️

Let her get in trouble. There would only be an issue if she responded back ok then not warn her

NTA she got too comfortable. It's not OP's responsibility to make sure she's doing what needs to be done.
Id cover if it was once in a while too but not everyday!

This is time theft and a fireable offense. If the manager isn’t aware that means she’s not clocking out for that entire time I would assume

If I were the person sending the message, I would assume that no reply to being asked to cover me meant that the other person was not comfortable doing that. The woman taking long lunch is in essence playing Russian roulette and ineptly she was going to get caught.

She should not cover for her that’s her livelihood, and she shouldn’t put it on the line for her

NTA. If OP had covered, boss would’ve noticed, and it would’ve reflected poorly on OP. It’s wrong to ask co-workers to “cover”. This is not 6th grade.

nta. Rebecca needs to be a responsible adult and come back on time from her lunches. if where she's going is too far.. then you don't go. plain and simple. if this is a continued thing and it's affecting my job then I'm not covering for you.
