FYI. All the parks in San Francisco are the old cemetaries.

It’s not a fun fact. It’s important that you reveal how greedy humans can be.

Not that long ago, a homeowner in Laurel Village dig up a small old coffin that was never moved, and it was a little girl in a lead-lined coffin with a window panel - and she was not all that decomposed after 150+ years.

They turn the stones upside down to hide the shame of desecrating so many graves in the name of progress

A lot of people don’t know that Dolores Park used to be not one but two cemeteries from 1860 until the late 1890s.

What a horrible thing to do! If they moved the graves (disgraceful enough) the tombstones should have stayed with them. So basically these people spent money to be placed in unmarked graves and no one protested because anyone who knew when is long gone? And they tried to hide it by turning them upside down.

I don't see an issue with this. Reduce reuse repurpose.

I feel like the people who made the decision to profit off of the families of the deceased are probably not going to fair too well for a while in their existence 💔 this is so sad

Unforgivable! No wonder SF is such a bad luck city, it’s full of unquiet ghosts looking for their tombstones

This reminds me of the Hardy Tree in London. Thomas Hardy had to move the graves for a railway and a tree grew out of it. So awful.

They used some on sea walls and occasionally they dislodge and wash up on the shore. It causes a bit of a stir when ppl come upon random tombstones on the beach.

What a weird thing to do to tombstones. They should've all gone to Colma made into a tower of stones (like the tower of faces in GoT), or at least got buried.

My 2x great-grandparents had 9 children total but only my great-grandmother survived birth and/or infancy. Their babies were originally buried in a catholic cemetery. My g-g- grandparents would later divorce and obviously did not have the funds to rebury their dead children who were removed and buried in a mass grave in Colma. My g-g grandmother ended up in a state mental institution, where she spent the last of her 15 years on earth. I’m not sure I would have fared better, losing just about everything that ever mattered. 😭
