The real problem here is trying to give city infrastructure to a mountain, a TEMPERATE rainforest. We should be working with the ecology (i.e. adopting concrete that soaks up the rain rather than gathers it). DOT /does/ everything it can, ESPECIALLY SINCE HURRICANE HELENE, but when it comes to structurally sound concrete for potholes regular road maintenance, etc. their timetables are incredibly strained, and as a local I hate it, but i appreciate and respect the time and process it truly takes. They (DOT) were already struggling in the area due to the governmental regulations for repairs prior to Helene, and i had previously noted this before Helene hit us. Town of Boone and AppState have no real control over one another, AND I’ve recently learned that Dept of Transport is STATE owned, so a lot of the time towns have no say over state sanctioned roads. All that said, I do believe this is by Taco Bell, and it STILL sucks that the corporation didn’t plan this better or consider town schedules when moving forward with this rebuild. I know I’ve droned on, but this is truly one of those (un)fortunate moments I’m one of those people to say: PLEASE reach out to your representatives moments, and ask them to adequately allocate the FEMA money/not look over Appalachia when making the budget issues.
