@thin.is.win: #wl #models #fyp What this look looked like In the 2000s, a certain Eastern European model type became highly visible internationally: * very light or blonde or ash brown hair * light skin and often light eyes * conspicuous, rather "doll-like" facial features * very slim, tall silhouette - at that time a widespread catwalk ideal * strongly emphasised eyes and shiny lips * long, well-groomed hair * overall a cool, elegant and somewhat unapproachable look This was partly described with terms such as Russian beauty, Slavic beauty or Eastern European model. ๐Ÿ‘  The modelling scene Some of the most recognisable models of this era actually came from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus or other Eastern European countries. Natalia Vodianova, Sasha Pivovarova and Daria Werbowy were particularly prominent. Natalia Vodianova became a symbol for the international rise of Eastern European models in the 2000s. Sasha Pivovarova, on the other hand, had this very unusual, almost ethereal "doll" look, which was extremely popular in high fashion. ๐Ÿช† Why "Doll"? The "doll" element comes mainly from the combination: Big eyes + even skin + small/fine features + long hair + very slim silhouette. In pop culture, this partly became an almost artificially perfect image of an "eastern European doll". However, this is more of a Western construction of a certain ideal of beauty than a description of what women from Slavic countries actually look like. It is also interesting that the look later got a second career on the Internet: On Tumblr, Pinterest and later TikTok, the 2000s Eastern European aesthetics, "Russian doll" looks and Y2K fashion were taken up again.
