@fooddiegotv: “Growing Up Punk 2: A Millennium Punk Rock Story” (The second installment of my ducu-series on the Southern California punk rock scene in 90s and 2000s as seen through my experiences as a drummer and video maker.) Part 2 is about the next band I joined, the venue changes in San Diego around the millennium, how our band found success with our music videos on national television which then got us signed, and how we then started our own music TV show. #poppunk #punkrock #skatepunk #punkband #punkhistory

I miss yhe old SOMA. I played in a battle of the bands again at Blink in the mid 90s, I sang for 93.3 for the opening of the Mira Mesa Epicenter. I mean, I went to high school across the street. Not only did I sing for that opening, but I was in a dance group that performed. I performed.manu times at the Epicententer then went and watched my students perform there years later. The scene was so different then. Going to Unwritten Law shows and having out at the taco shop with them afterwards. It was through this scene that I saw Alien ant Farm before anyone knew who they were. I still have their demo tape.

I missed talking about Chain Reaction in Anaheim. Camerica played there too. We also filmed a Jughead’s Revenge music video there for the Upthrust VHS. Today, copies of that tape are the only way to watch it! RIP Chain

Oh man I haven’t heard the Epicenter mentioned in forever!! I saw a bunch of great shows there. They were pretty strict about capacity. And there wasn’t any online ticket purchases. You just had to get there early and buy a ticket at the door, until it sold out like 30 minutes before the door opened. There was nothing special about the “tickets” being sold. They were just raffle tickets 🎟️so when shows were sold out we would just look at what color raffle tickets they were using that day, then we’d drive 5 minutes down Mira Mesa Blvd. to Party City and buy a roll of the same color tickets 🎟️and get into the “sold out” shows. Of course we gave raffle tickets away free to others who were locked out as well. Those nights would be packed like fukn sardines because 50-60 people above capacity would tickets too 🤣😂🤘

Nice, I watched the whole thing! The fact that you came across a channel who was just advertising they were accepting music videos to be sent in for air is crazy. Such luck, and an amazing opportunity for bands and video producers.

Thanks for this it is a very accurate depiction of the music seen back then as well as the challenges of recording or making videos. I was in that same practice studio in Miramar I can still smell it, so many bands packed in there. Played dream street all the time, the venue challenges were real haha

Only went to the Epicenter twice, once for Boxcar Racer and another to see Larger Than Life. I was at Canes all the time. Saw a lot of bands there

word was that there were so many violations of that building on Marina that Lynn totally ignored for years and it was just too expensive to redo or something
