I’m in my senior year of mechanical engineering and I work at a bar within 10 miles of Lockheed. I get asked at least 10 times a week by colleagues and patrons some variation of “how excited are you to work at Lockheed” and any time I mention that I would never work for a company that so grotesquely opposes my morals, they simply don’t understand. The entire area worships them as if they’re gods just because they pay better than their competitors.

gives me hope to see some engineers saying they rejected or would never work in certain companies… as opposed to what i always see “the money is good”

i think about 70% of my ivy league mechE class is going into defense… and probably another 15% are doing oil/gas. i’m the only person i know of going into medical devices/healthcare. it’s so so awful.

Okayyy yes I get they're in a complex industry but that doesn't make them evil or not necessary. They are responsible for a lot of innovation

While Lockheed’s continued support to Israel is indisputably bad (no thanks to the ppl in US office loving Israel), it’s a bit unfair to narrow down all of their products to just the Israelis. They supply to most of NATO (F-35’s, F-16’s) and a lot of Asian allies (UAE, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan). Also, while yes, they do make missiles, some of those missiles are interceptors, which save lives by shooting down other missiles. Also, there are some Lockheed innovations that you can genuinely get behind. For example, any time you use Google or Apple Maps, you’re using Lockheed satellites (GPS), and they built the Orion spacecraft for the Artemis missions (which is pretty cool). Also, their aerospace work goes beyond the military, for example, the X-59 in collaboration with NASA seeks to return supersonic flight to commercial use. Again, the use of their products in Gaza is completely inexcusable, but at the same time it’s a bit unfair to narrow down a whole company down to one very bad consumer.

DoD contractors generally have no control over the direct use of their weapons once sold. Similarly you typically can’t blame a car manufacturer for drunk driving deaths or gun manufacturers for someone else’s misuse

"rejected a 100k/year offer from Lockheed martin" 😂yeah sure thing morals dont pay bills and the world is not la la land wars are an important for human development and literally a lot of important inventions were created because of wars (internet, epipen, gps,microwave....) tbh If I got a 6 figures offer from one of these companies im 100% accepting it
