@arnco.safety: At the Arnco Safety Training Center, we offer a hands-on Grain Bin Rescue course. In this course, you will learn how to properly and safely rescue an individual in our grain bin simulation. In this video, our safety professionals demonstrate how they would adequately assess and set up a rescue for an individual trapped in a grain bin. Watch part 2 (The Grain Bin Rescue Extraction Simulation) to discover how the rescue team frees a trapped individual.

I run a death claim department and also am in the Midwest. the amount of claims where a father and son were lost trying to save each other is astronomical. this is so insanely important.

My grandpa died in a grain bin in Elburn Illinois in the 1950’s attempting to save someone who was stuck. My dad was 2 years old when it happened. Love that silo safety is becoming a bigger deal.

As a kid we would jump in the grain bins and scramble to get back up, I never knew how dangerous this was until I was an adult

As a kid in the Canadian prairies, this is the worst fear I had. Especially if it was flax seed, you were going right to the bottom. We all heard the stories.

Some of these comments really highlight how out of touch people are with the agriculture industry, which is WILD because we'd all literally die without it.

I worked at a grain elevator during my summer breaks in college. Workers often go in when emptying the silos because any moisture leaves the contents stuck in a layer on top or crusted to the sides. They go in while filling to make sure the top is flat and not peaked so the everything dries out evenly. I remember being there when someone got stuck. I was more help getting the hell out of the way than I was up close, so I didn’t see how they got him out, but I know the worker had a dislocated knee when they finally got him out. Silo safety is no joke, it does not take long for you to suffocate once you’re completely under.

Large powerful augers pull the corn out from the bottom. Top portions can hang up from time and heat. Creating a bridge. Owners will get in and try to walk it down. We have trainings on this danger every year

What if you could create a hydraulic grate at the base that could vibrate while moving up (similar to a French coffee press) and essentially create a platform once it reaches trapped person and lifts them up enough to safely move/get out/safe rescue?

Instead of fixing a way to help someone who had to go in and get stuck. Why not invent a solution to the problem so no one has to go in, in the first place. Fix the problem not the solution.
