🎬 LIVERPOOL HAS MADE ANOTHER FILM OF ITS OWN — AND THIS ONE IS DEFINITELY WORTH KEEPING ON YOUR RADAR. I was lucky enough to be at the cast and crew premiere of Semolina Pilchard at Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre — and now the film is beginning to make its way out into the wider world. Written and directed by Mike Clarke, Semolina Pilchard is a darkly comic Liverpool crime story about an estranged daughter called back home by her dying gangster father, setting off a rather messy battle over family, loyalty and inheritance. And it is properly packed with familiar faces. The cast includes Joe McGann, Louis Emerick, Jack Ryder, James Dreyfus and Joe Egan, with appearances from Ricky Tomlinson, Tina Malone and Kate Fitzgerald, alongside a strong emerging cast. There’s even a nice little Beatles connection hiding in the title — “Semolina Pilchard” comes from John Lennon’s lyrics to I Am The Walrus. 🎵 For me though, one of the biggest surprises was the soundtrack. It features Liverpool and Merseyside names including OMD, Black, Amsterdam, Ian McNabb and Dean Johnson, and it absolutely lands. ⭐ Film: 5/5 🎵 Soundtrack: 5/5 So where can you see it? The Blu-ray release has been announced through Last Slate Video, with HMV and other physical-media retailers including Zavvi, Rarewaves, Chalkys and Hive named as stockists. The film is also continuing to get screenings further afield — including a one-night screening at Bedford Playhouse in New York on 27 August 2026. Not bad going for a film with Liverpool running right through it. 🇬🇧➡️🇺🇸 I haven't found a confirmed UK streaming platform for it yet, so rather than guess, I'll update you when that is officially announced. Strange, bold, funny, very Scouse and full of character.
