without the wadding it gives it a really cool stained glass like effect so imo you could go without the wadding and go for a stained glass inspired quilt

The wadding would add stability. And maybe extend the pieces life. And I would love to see it entered in a big quilt competition. Are you quilting it at all? If not - the stability from wadding isn’t really an issue
