@cailaquinn: Moms with little kids… does anyone else feel torn between showing up for the friends who were such a big part of your old world, while being present for this new one? ♥️ My friends showed up for my wedding, baby showers, and biggest moments, and I really want to do the same for them. But with three little kids, a destination wedding suddenly feels like a huge decision. I never want to lose the friendships that helped shape me before motherhood, but I also don’t want to miss this season at home. How do you decide when to go and when to stay? Don’t you have a nanny? Go to the wedding, make it a family vacay, bring the nanny for the night of the wedding!

As a single girl with married friends who have kids, please go. She won’t tell you how hurtful it will be if you don’t. She celebrated you and showed up, she deserves to be celebrated and be shown up for as well. It also doesn’t have to be an either or. You can choose your kids and choose your friends. It’s about prioritizing moments. And this is the moment to prioritize her.

You go to the wedding for 36-48 hours. Husband watches the kids and get a babysitter for extra set of hands

yes! 1. its a once in a lifetime event for your friend. 2. She showed up for your big events. 3. A destination wedding can be a just a short weekend, but without kids its also a chance to reconnect with your husband as just adults and a healthy relationship is the best foundation for a healthy family dynamic!

You also don’t know what she’s sacrificed to be there for you. That’s what you do for friends.

I feel like one parent gets to go solo which sucks but that’s the reality

I feel the kids won’t hold one weekend or a few nights against you, even when they are older and look back on their childhood. I’m sure you will have tons of holiday plans centered around them that they won’t even notice in the grand scheme of things. Go be there for your friend and enjoy the time away with your husband ☺️Especially because you have the resources to do so!

I’ve heard of people who book an extra room and bring parents/babysitters so the kids can come but you still have you time for the wedding events itself!

It’s so good for our kids to have experiences with other family members (or villagers) that are also special. It’s a gift you’re giving to them and also assuming this destination wedding is a 4 day trip max…I would be there for your friend

Your friend doesn’t deserve less because she wasn’t in the same phase of life at the same time as you. You’re littles won’t remember but your friend will

personally, i just couldn’t leave my little ones to go so far away without them. but, if i could bring them (leave them with my husband) and step away for just the wedding i definitely would.

If your relationship is super close with this person, then I would go. Maybe treat your parents to come with you guys? Kids won’t be too far away from you and your parents won’t be just watching them alone. It’s ok to ask your village. The worst they can say is no and then your plan b is to go alone. If you leave on a Friday and back on a Sunday night, it’ll be ok!

I think it depends on early vs late December and how many days are you going to need? because Late December for 5 days heck no, but early December for 3 days then yes. Just leave explicit Elf on the Shelf notes.
