@profahmedhankir: When Do You Actually Need Antidepressants? “Antidepressants are life-saving.” “Antidepressants are life-destroying.” As a psychiatrist, I think both extremes miss the point. Antidepressants are neither a moral failure nor a magic cure. They’re one treatment option among many — and for the right person, at the right time, they can be life-changing, sometimes life-saving. Treatment should be based on evidence, informed consent and individual circumstances — not stigma, fear or ideology. #antidepressants #MentalHealth #depression

I feel like if you’ve tried all the natural approaches and therapy and you still feel like you’re losing the battle, I think the benefits of medication can outweigh the risks.❤️

Is bupropion the best choice for executive disfunction? Don’t feel like doing anything but I don’t think I’m depressed

Medication has been both incredibly destructive and incredibly helpful for me. When I was first diagnosed 20 years ago, I went through medications whose side effects made my life much much worse. I tried to tough it out and live without medication. It wasn't until a new medication came on the market that didn't exist when I started that I found one that helped stabilize my mood to keep me from reaching severe depths as easily. It wasn't a cure. It wasn't until I hit a devastating low that I integrated talk therapy, group therapy, DBT, and a community of faith that I was able to begin making headway. Even with additional medications and an additional recognition that my initial diagnosis of Major Depression didn't reflect an additional disorder of Catatonia and begining treatment for that I'm not cured, but life has improved.
Just because a particular medication doesn't work, it need not necessarily mean another medication, treatment, therapy, or approach won't work. Please, don't give up.

If you can’t function no matter how hard you try, medication can help you to be able do things like therapy, mindfulness, finding new hobbies, hangout with friends.. etc

I take psychiatric medication and it doesn’t do anything because I stopped taking it and I don’t feel a difference with my mental health. I feel fine eating good exercising but I still feel like I need something that can help.

It does depend the type of antidepressant yeah? Like a small antidepressant like Fluoxentine…. If u drink alcohol everyday, and take that pill, is that very bad choice?
