Something I swore by when teaching is that if no isn’t an answer you would accept, don’t ask just tell. Instead of, “are you ready for bed?” It’s “alright it’s bed time!”

I only ask some things. if they have an option like what do you want for snack? they have a choice between a few things. other things I tell like when its time to leave the house. I dont ask them to put their shoes on I tell them its time to go, get your shoes on.

Since she’s five, a good thing to do would be when out shopping, driving, walking, etc. ask her questions about things around. Like what part of the store do you get carrots from, how many red cars can she count while you drive, how many slides are at the park. It promotes spacial awareness in an age appropriate way.

we also parent like this! we personally think it's setting them up for success in every aspect of life, daycare, school, jobs, sports. if our employer or teacher had to ask us to do something 4 times, they're probably going to get upset. it's a hard start, but it's been such a game changer. now when we ask them to get their things done, it's done right away and we have time to go do other things!

Girl every time I watch your videos I think “how is she only 24?!” You and your husband sound so mature and thoughtful. Not saying 24 year olds can’t be…but I don’t know many 24 year olds who put SO much thought and empathy into raising children. You guys inspire me so so much and I don’t even want children!! You’re doing such a great job

And here I was told by a man before I had kids telling your children you love them after a fight every time was “unrealistic”

What if it’s not enforce-able? Like say if she just didn’t clean her room for many hours even though you sat with her

As a long time nursery worker and mom to a teen this is the way…say something once and then give a consequence…”don’t throw the toys” proceeds to chunk toy I would either take the toy or move them to a short time out(I have 2-3 year olds)

We do this as well! My son almost 3 gets 1 chance. That way he always knows we’re serious. Most of the time we model the action with him due to his age.

kids in foster care have so much trauma; youre asking a child who experienced trauma to regulate when she was never taught. Telling her to calm her body isnt efficient, her melting down with you sta ding at the door feels cruel. Teach her to calm her body, don't make her a hostage (trapped where she has no way out, causing more trauma). You don't react to her melting down? youre teaching her that you dont value or care about her feelings.
