Upon my rewatch, I realized that Bear blamed the CAT for getting into the pills, so even from the beginning he was eschewing responsibility and accountability. And that was his theme for the rest of the movie. Even at the end, he didn’t try to K himself bc he wanted to save Nikki. He wanted to save himself. He wanted out of the situation. But he was a coward even then, and tried to back out.

to me bear starts out as a dumb, selfish, emotionally immature loser, then gets everything he's "ever wanted" and rides that high. then struggles (fairly imo) to comprehend that his wish actually happened. but once he makes that call. imo he just becomes wilfully ignorant and then into a monster after the sleep talk scene.

I thought the ending was what stood out to me the most because it felt very true to what often happens in toxic relationships. In the end, the woman is left carrying the emotional bill for the aftermath. We go to therapy, church, our girlfriends, anywhere we can, to process, repair, and heal from what happened. Meanwhile, the man can simply walk away without taking any real accountability, reduce the whole relationship to “my ex was crazy,” and quickly hop into another relationship where he gets to present himself as the good guy. And she’s left doing the work to recover from the damage they both participated in creating.

We all know that bear sucks but not everyone buries their pets, well not anyone I’ve known. And maybe him going out to trivia night was a way to cope and get his mind off things. I’m not trying to defend bear im just saying there’s logical reasons that may have been skewed by your reasoning.

I think the real story is Nikki had terrible taste in friends . Bear was obsessed with her , Ian was using her for a lay from time to time , and Sarah could of cared less about Nikki’s well being after seeing her bash herself in the head repeatedly at the party, what does Sarah do after witnessing that ? Tries to hook up with her man on the sly, doesn’t even ask about Niki 😂 like wtf is this friend group . So while yes bear is gonna be seen as the complete bad guy cuz the focus is on him and his actions, those other two that claimed to care about him and Nikki are just as bad🤷♂️
