The Israeli Air Force’s official Instagram account has shared a post using imagery from Apple’s newly unveiled iPhone Duo, placing an image of armed Israeli soldiers in Gaza inside the screen of the foldable device. The post used the headline, “This is Duo,” echoing Apple’s launch branding for the iPhone Duo, alongside a visual of the unfolded phone framing a collection of photographs depicting the Israeli army. Apple introduced the iPhone Duo on September 9 as its first foldable iPhone. Claims circulating alongside the post have linked the iPhone Duo to Apple’s research-and-development operations in Israel. Apple operates R&D centres in Herzliya, Haifa and Jerusalem, and reporting has said these facilities have contributed to Apple’s work on silicon, connectivity, camera and sensing technologies. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in September 2025 that anyone carrying a mobile phone was holding “a piece of Israel” in their hands, a remark made while promoting the country’s technology and export industries. Months later, reporting by The Jerusalem Post linked Apple’s iPhone 17e to the company’s Israeli research-and-development operations, saying its C1X cellular modem had been developed in Israel. Apple’s specifications confirm that the iPhone 17e uses the C1X modem, but Apple has not publicly identified where the component was developed or which of its engineering teams worked on it. However, the Israeli Air Force post does not establish an Apple–IAF partnership or show that Apple authorised the use of its advertising design.
