@no_the_robot: The weirdest rumor about Disney’s HEXED is that it was framed for social media and not cinemas. Which is an odd rumor because the movie hasn’t even been released yet. But there might be another reason that the subject is in the middle: they’re using other composition techniques besides the rule of thirds, such as the rabatment of the rectangle. Does this movie look as cinematic as Frozen or Tangled to you? Let me know! #disney #animation #hexed #composition #educational
Ugh they’re just framing movies for social media now, look

It’s also entirely possible that the shots in the trailer were actually framed for social media because that’s how they intend to share the trailer

Guess I’m going to be the only contrarian voice here, but here we go: In the examples you showed, there was something missing from the vertical crop, or the wide crop looked better and added information. In the Hexed clips, there’s little to nothing meaningful cropped out when you take the vertical shot. I will say they may have intentionally chosen shots that crop to vertical well, but the examples of other films that you showed all looked worse as vertical crops, while Hexed looked mostly the same.

And it's a trailer like of course they will pick the shots that can be used to market the movie in different ways

When this argument started. I pulled up scenes from a bunch of old Disney movies (pre social media) and it was the same thing. people are just cynical

or maybe they picked shots for the trailer that would look good on social so they could share it on socials? This is a bizarre, non-issue.

its important to remember that you have not seen the movie yet. this is a trailer, which most people will watch on their phones. so yes you can argue that the trailer is edited to work eith the various aspect ratios, but it doesnt mean that the movie was.
