26/28 cows approved! 😂 and my 2 disapproving cows hopefully were only disgusted by my hands smelling like another cow’s slobber! My goal in making a hand-sized treat is to give it to specific cows. Before, I measured & poured the yeast with cow feed and feed them all. I had no way to know if the specific cows I targeted consumed enough. I also use these treat balls to administer Benny’s aspirin a day regimen. #cow #farmlife #cattle #vetmed #treats If you’re interested in yeast benefits, I’ll add that below. 🐮COW TREATS - yields 2 balls. 1/2 cup plain rolled oats 1 TSP molasses 2 ounces unsweetened applesauce 1 ounce water (INSERT YOUR COW MEDS): My meds are: 4 ounces yeast - Opti-Ferm XL Specifc Live Yeast Livestock Feed by Kalmbach or 2 ounces of aspirin for Benny I hand mix and roll into 2 balls & set aside until feed time. 🤠 1). Live yeast reduces the amount of heat produced in the rumen of the cow, therefore they stay cooler in a severe heat – humidity index climate. It’s difficult to have definitive proof other than my 2 older and normally heat stressed cows (Scarlet - who aborted in a past August heat & Audrey had a premature but successful calf in a past August heat) handled the heat well. Both still had increased respirations and longer periods resting in the shade. No panting, drooling, or lethargy. Both also had a misting fans available to them and received a water hose shower once a day. The heat dissipation while drying, cools their body temperature and allows them to continue graze. Audrey had a successful full term calf and Scarlett is doing well, due in November. 2). Live yeast increases milk production. I have (4) 1st time heifers that calved in August. Heat stress can cause low milk production. They have been fed live yeast since May. They’ve had excellent milk production & I don’t know if it’s 💯 because of the yeast, but it benefits them regardless with 22% protein, 5% fat, 16% crude fiber plus it’s a cheap & healthy supplement.
