I'm getting so f pissed at people saying he is RIGHT (you know how). Socrates said this (by Plato's pen who yes, was more for a monarchy like the one in Sparta), but his solution to the problem was educating people. And he did it in the right way: not with notions, but with questions. He tried to develop critical thinking in everyone he met. Nowadays education is much more diffused because of schools but it's like we are forced to learn notions which, in my opnion, aren't useless, but without the critical component they are worthless, especially for living in a society and for understanding politics and what goes on in the world. It's like we are having illusion of knowledge

how would you differentiate smart from stupid People? that's easier said than done especially considering there are different levels of intelligence and different fields to be intelligent on. the way it works is giving everyone an equal vote gives everyone the same power if my vote was worth 10 of yours you would never be able to have power over your life.

IF only educated people are allowed to vote we have to ask which persons have access to free education. If not, are only the rich allowed to vote? the solution is not to increase the requirements to vote, it’s to inform all the voters.

The issue by putting more weight on educated people vote is that educated people is often rich people because they have a more easy access to education, culture etc... Is it really morally correct to only count rich people vote ? And also another question is how would we define education ? Like, where is the limit between educated and uneducated people ? I don't really disagree with the idea of changing the weight a vote can hold but I don't think it's gonna be inclusive

Is the real problem uneducated getting to vote or the educated that have learned how to use power correctly for their own benefit? I think that the problem in today's democracies is far more complicated than what socrates could have thought 2000 years ago.

if you're not allowed to make stupid decisions you're not really free to make decisions. yes, a well rounded education helps bringing society forward, but Socrates was just arguing towards having one benevolent dictator 🙄 as if that amount of power would not corrupt everyone eventually and be way too little perspective to make good decisions and way too much responsibility for one person alone. democracy isn't perfect, but it is the best system we have come up with so far.
