China considers anyone that makes more than 2,300 yuan annually as “above the poverty line”. Converted to usd that is $341 usd annually. The average annual cost of living in China is 29,500 yuan or $4,375 usd. Just because China changed their definition of “above the poverty line” in order to say they eliminated poverty does NOT mean they actually eliminated poverty.

I love how all the people actively supporting socialism and communism don’t live in said country. Instead they live comfortably in the west, bad mouthing the very system that created the comfort they’re now bad mouthing and saying is broken and evil.

You left out the part Americans played in China’s recovery. In 1971 Richard Nixon ended the trade embargo with China. China became America’s favorite nation for trade. Since then the largest transfer of wealth in human history has taken place between China and the US and it continues today.

how can someone claim that socialism never worked? ussr was very successful for the first decades, because people drift from it and greeded doesnt mean it didnt work...cuba is very successful still, if you consider the amount of suctions and boycott it has received from US and despite that cuba has done very glorious things around medical science...also you cant really mirror ussr 1917 socialism to today. the same way capitalistic Us was not the same then and now, times are changing, the use of the systems are changing, humans learn from mistake and they are not perfect. also none of the socialistic states, that had been around, was the same 100% with each other, so you cant predict that the same things/mistakes/problem will happen if your country turns socialist tomorrow... capitalism theory started during the 11th century and started to become a system around the 16-17th century... communist theory developed in the 19th century and ussr surpassed the bloom of capitalism (usa) in a couple of decades

people hear "out of poverty" and think everyone is rich. when the poverty line is something like living on less then $3 a day, so instead of getting $2.50 a day they now get $3.10 a day and BOOM out of poverty

It is funny because when china was actually communist it was one of the poorest countries in the world. They can be really grateful for Deng Xiaoping who opened the market, travelled across capitalist countries and learnt from them and literally introduced capitalist economy but with twist of authoritarian government

My question is, why are we trying to replace capitalism with pre-1900’s economic theories that have bad track records? If capitalism has to be replaced why not come up with a new model that’s built around the modern day? Also just because Karl Marx wrote a Theory, it doesn’t make it true or correct. For example he wrote that capitalist society’s would inevitably collapse and turn socialist through revolution. But history shows the opposite has happened with China and Russia. Also to point out Venezuela adopted a socialist system and they went from being the wealthiest country in South America to the poorest.
