So in theory if you kept topping it off would you be able make a solid clay mould eventually or does the plaster only absorb water to a certain thickness?

Thank you so much for explaining! I didn’t realize the mold absorbs liquid allowing the clay to harden around the edges. Love your work.

Years ago someone told me that plaster molds don't just absorb water. They will also absorb some of the minerals from the slip and eventually the mold will stop working properly. The clay will stick to it and it won't come out cleanly. Is that true? If it is true is there any way to clean excess minerals from the mold?

Could you make a solid sculpture with this method? Does the mold get too damp if you use it repeatedly? How many times can you use the mold in a row before it gets too damp? Thanks!

Can you make solid pieces. Just don't pour out slip?

Can you be confident that it’s about 1/8th of an inch along the entire mold?

Why top it up as it’s forming? The pour hole seems to be deep enough to not require that. Was that just for demonstration?

Could you explain (for those of us not in the know) why the shell needs to be hollow inside? Why can’t the statue be solid?

so is that pour hole in the mold why a bunch of ceramic stuff i grew up with like my piggy bank had a hole in the bottom? that's where the slip was poured when it was mass produced?

my folks had a ceramic shop when I grew up. I love catching your content. my dad taught me a lot about pouring molds even though I never had to do it without him. ceramics are a beautiful hobby and I appreciate you sharing all that with us

You should clean that mold better. Especially on the inside or your mold could leak.

I love ceramics, the process intrigues me so much, but I'll never ever ever do it. the texture makes my skin crawl (and I dont know why 😭)

That mould has been around for ages. I painted that cat when I was 5 and I’m now 51. I still have it with a couple of ceramics my mom and grandma painted.

If the plaster absorbs water, is there a limit on how often you can use that mold in a given amount of time? Do you need to dry it somehow?
