Actually atoms don’t look like anything. Light doesn’t bounce off them they’re smaller than the wave of light. To actually see an atom is impossible even if you had a crazy incredible microscope. At least it’s impossible with light. People “see” atoms with electrons. It’s not that we think atoms look like that it’s that we couldn’t tell what they actually look like in current day, to us they look like little beads with our microscopes.

We can feel atoms. We can move atoms. We can not see atoms. We physically with our eyes and a microscope will never see an atom. They are represented in different ways, but never seen.

Atoms are invisible. If we could zoom in to that scale, they would look like nothing. These are just models to give an idea of things that exist that we can never see, no matter how powerful our microscopes get. Things become very faintly visible at the scale of DNA and viruses
